San Diego is home after a long road trip to the East
coast. Their pitching staff likes the spacious outfield of Petco Park. It's
a park you need to be able to throw strikes in and not walk anyone. That's
the problem with Colorado starter Ubaldo Jimenez, who has 25 walks in 34 innings.
That's why he's 1-2 with a 5.82 ERA. San Diego starter Greg Maddux knows all
about the value of throwing strikes, walking just 8 in 44 innings. He's been
much better the last two years at home than on the road. An excellent spot
for the home team. Play the Padres! Click

Jim Feist Free Pick
(969) NY Yankees (970) DET Tigers
Take "(969) NY Yankees"
The Detroit bullpen troubles continue, especially when shaky starters don't provide enough quality innings. In this game, starter Nate Robertson has struggled badly, at 1-4 with a 6.64 ERA. He's averaged just over 5 innings per game. Even when he was throwing well, the Yankees knocked him around, with a 2-5 record against them, plus a 5.02 ERA. NY lefty Andy Pettitte has a .500 record, but is throwing well with a 3.77 ERA. The Yankees have a better road record than the struggling Tigers have at home. Play the Yankees! Click

Dave Cokin Free Pick
(927) OAK Athletics (928) TEX Rangers
Take "(927) OAK Athletics"
Two huge plays for the price of one this Saturday from Smokin' Dave Cokin. Get both Dave's NL and AL Games of the Week for only $25 at his Solid Gold Club and get set to nail two monster winners!... "The Rangers got an unexpected lift from unheralded Scott Feldman Friday night and knocked off the A's. But I don't see the momentum carrying over here. Kevin Millwood is getting ripped in virtually every start and I expect the A's to do damage against him here. Dana Eveland has been much tougher at home than on the road, but overall the lefty has been pretty effective and I believe he rates the pitching edge. Oakland is also the better team, so adding it all up, there looks to be good value here on the A's." Click

At 8:05pm ET, our complimentary selection is on the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers 'under' the total. Apparently, the A's think they're so deep in starting pitching right now that they can afford to designate one of the best starters from this year and last, 25 year old Chad Gaudin to the bullpen. The young and talented righthander has been moved into a relief role to make room in the rotation for Rich Harden (who is scheduled to start on Sunday) and given the recent history of Harden's arm this move is almost certainly a temporary one. No doubt one reason the A's feel they can afford to do this is because of the emergence of some very unexpected young starting pitching talent like a pair of 24 year-old lefthanders named Greg Smith and Dana Eveland, the latter of which is tonight's starter. The big knock against Eveland going into his last appearance was the fact that he couldn't go more than six innings (he only went 7 in his opening start), but he shut those critics up last Monday when he pitched a strong seven innings, giving up no runs on three hits. And Oakland's bullpen has also been superb with a 2.12 ERA on the year. But the problem for the A's has been their anemic offense. Lately, Oakland's hitters just haven't been able to produce runs, as they've only been able to plate more the four runs once in their last six contests. How bad must an offense be for them to get shut out against perhaps the worst pitching staff in the Majors? Pretty bad, but that is exactly what happened to the A's on Friday against the dreadful Texas hurlers. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
Ross Benjamin's Free Daily Sports Pick -
Baltimore (Olson) @ Kansas City (Tomko) 7:10 PM ET 5/10/2008
Play On: Baltimore -110
The Orioles have defeated the Royals 11 times in a row and 14 of the last 15. The Royals starting pitcher Brett Tomko enters the game in bad form off of his last 3 starts posting a 1.88 WHIP and a 6.91 ERA. The Royals are hitting just .231 as a team at home versus left-handed pitching this season. The Orioles starting pitcher Olson has been very good in his first 2 starts this season posting a stellar 2.08 ERA while allowing just 8 hits in 13.0 innings. The price is right so we are going with the Baltimore Orioles as my free selection of the night.

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers (MLB) - May 9, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: 123 New York Yankees Pick Title:
The Yankees avoided the sweep on Thursday against the
Indians which will provide some much needed momentum heading into this revenge
series with the Tigers. Detroit went to Yankee Stadium at the start of last
week and took all three games making it five straight wins over the Yankees
dating back to last season. New York is 9-9 on the road this season but is
7-5 in its last 12 away from home. Pitching has picked up some of the slack
as the unit has allowed three runs or fewer in five of the last six games.
Just when you thought the Tigers were emerging once
again following a very slow start, they are once again struggling. After starting
the year a miserable 2-10, Detroit reeled off 12 wins in its next 17 games,
including that sweep in New York. Since then however, the Tigers have lost
six of their last seven games including three of four at home against the Red
Sox. Unlike the Yankees, pitching is a real issue as it has allowed five runs
or more in five straight games and four runs or more in 12 of the last 13 games.
The Tigers hope to get out of the pitching funk with
Kenny Rogers on the hill. Based on his last two outings, things may be on the
upswing for Rogers but I am still not sold. Two straight quality outings followed
three straight miserable games and I expect one of the latter results here
based on the quality start go against theory as well as his struggles with
the Yankees. Despite allowing two runs in six innings in New York two starts
back, Rogers is 6-7 with a 6.25 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 15 starts against the
Yankees.
New York counters will call-up Kei Igawa who will be
making his first start of the season. Last year, he was good at times but was
also pretty bad at times and even though he was winless on the road, his overall
numbers were much better than at home. He should come into this game with some
good confidence as opposed to last season when he was just thrown into the
fire. The confidence is based on his minor league success as he was 3-3 with
a 3.86 ERA in seven starts. Play New York Yankees 1.5 Units

St Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers (MLB) - May 10, 2008 3:45 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -179 Milwaukee Brewers Pick Title: Milwaukee
Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Milwaukee– St.
Louis is off to one fine start, but they are not executing at the same performance
level when playing in day games. In 14 day games they are scoring just 4.0
RPG and batting 262 versus 4.6 RPG and batting 279 on the season. They only
have 12 HR in 424 AB in day games this season. Bullpen begin to get a bit worn
as they sport a 4.63 ERA and a 1.842 WHIP over their past 7 games. Milwaukee
not hitting the ball, but they have Ben Sheets starting and a bullpen that
sports a 1.96 ERA and a 1.087 WHIP over the past 7 games. Supporting this graded
play is a system that has gone 221- 136 ATS for 62% and made 71.3 units since
2002. Play on home teams that are stranding 7.5 or more runners on base per
game on the season and is now facing an opponent with a hot starting pitcher
sporting an ERA less than 2.50 over his last 3 starts. STL starter Pineiro
has been steady over the past 3 games on average, but his last start lasted
just 3 innings yielding 8 hits, 1 HR and 3 ER. He is also sporting a 6.58 ERA
in 3 road starts and an 8.10 ERA in 2 day starts. Ben Sheets is 4-0 on the
season with a 2.29 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP and has allowed just 3 HR in 39.3 IP.
Milwaukee is 25-7 (+14.3 Units) against the money line in home games vs. a
starting pitcher whose strikes out 3 or less batters per start over the last
3 seasons.

St Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers (MLB) - May 10, 2008 3:45 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: 157 St Louis Cardinals Pick Title: Free Play
St Louis over Milwaukee The Brewers hurt us last night as we were one out
away from a nice underdog victory before Ricky Weeks ruined our fun. But we
go right back to the Cardinals today as this line doesn't clearly reflect how
Ben Sheets has fared against St Louis. Milwaukee has dropped 6 of the 7 games
he has started against the Redbirds. Last year in two starts St Louis lit him
up for a .304 average and .500 slugging percentage. Off back to back subpar
performances we see St Louis extending his troubles, with a nice underdog price
to boot. PLAY ST LOUIS

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers (MLB) - May 10, 2008 3:40 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -118 Detroit Tigers Pick Title:
The Detroit Tigers have had the NY Yankees number
this season, winning all 4 meetings, including the series opener on Friday
night 6-5. With the Yankees sending a guy that started his season, in the
minors, Darrell Rasner, I think the Motown crew have a great opportunity
of turning the trick again. Final notes & Trends: The Tigers have won
6 straight in this series, dating back to last season. Play on Detroit
