THE WEEKLY WAGER

COLLEGE BOWL GAMES FOR DECEMBER 30th thru JANUARY 4th
December 30, 2005
GAYLORD HOTELS MUSIC CITY BOWL
Minnesota
Minnesota
(7-4)
MUSIC CITY BOWL
December 30, 2005
Noon EST - ESPN
Nashville, TN
Virginia
Can Minnesota's fantastic running game rumble on the Virginia linebackers? The Cavalier defense has been a little soft, while Minnesota is second in the nation rushing he ball averaging 280 yards per game. Minnesota has won three straight bowl games under head coach Glen Mason. Virginia's staff with offensive coordinator Ron Pierce off to Kansas State, and defensive coordinator Al Golden likely off to be the head man at Temple. Virginia's 2004 season ended with a thud losing to Fresno State in the MPC Computers Bowl, and QB Marques Hagans is still ticked off about that game.- Click here for college bowl gambling lines

VITALIS SUN BOWL
Northwestern
SUN BOWL
December 30, 2005
2:00 pm EST - CBS
El Paso, TX
UCLA
(6-5)
UCLA
Offense, offense, offense. Forgetting about the disaster of the USC game, UCLA's offense is one of the most exciting in America ranking seventh in scoring. Northwestern's attack ranks eighth in the nation in total offense. It's not the Rose Bowl, but it's a more-than-solid Big Ten-Pac 10 matchup that'll go a long way toward comparing and contrasting the two big conferences. Northwestern wants to prove that its season was no fluke, while UCLA wants to finish with a ten-win season. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

INDEPENDENCE BOWL
South Carolina
INDEPENDENCE BOWL
December 30, 2005
3:30 pm EST - ESPN
Shreveport, LA
Missouri
It's Steve Spurrier back in the bowl spotlight with a solid bowl game and a chance to finish with a great first season. For Missouri, here's a shot to quiet many of the critics and take the head off head man Gary Pinkel. You don't need a reason to want to watch Brad Smith do his thing in his final game. The much-maligned Big 12 can put a huge feather in its cap with a win over a solid SEC team. As for the Gamecocks, ending the season with a loss would sour the season in a big way. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

CHICK-FIL-A PEACH BOWL
Miami
Miami
(9-2)
PEACH BOWL
December 30, 2005
7:30 pm EST - ESPN
Atlanta, GA
LSU
(10-2)
LSU
Each of these teams could easily be in the BCS and no one would blink. LSU might have problems on offense depending on the status of QB JaMarcus Russell, but the defense will be jacked up after the loss to Georgia. Miami's defense is No. 3 in the nation in total defense and No. 2 in scoring D. These two teams will be on the short list for the 2006 national title favorites. If you believe that bowl games are the stepping stone to the following season, this is an important battle that could be next year's national championship matchup. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

December 31, 2005
MEINEKE CAR CARE BOWL
South Florida
CAR CARE BOWL
December 31, 2005
11:00 am EST - ESPN2
Charlotte, NC
NC State
There will be lots of defense and lots of team speed. South Florida is off to its first bowl game since joining D-I, while NC State will have a nice home game with a chance to show off Mario Williams, Manny Lawson, Stephen Tulloch and the rest of the stars on the nation's 14th ranked defense. While this is an important statement game for USF and Jim Leavitt's program, it's just as big for the much-maligned Big East. A win over an ACC team would do wonders. NC State head coach Chuck Amato has dealt with a lot of heat, and even with a trip to a bowl game, he has to win it. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

AUTOZONE LIBERTY BOWL
Tulsa
Tulsa
(8-4)
LIBERTY BOWL
December 31, 2005
1:00 pm EST - ESPN
Memphis, TN
Fresno State
Just what kind of program is Tulsa becoming? Under Steve Kragthorpe, Tulsa was a nice story two years ago, slipped last year, and turned into a rock-solid team this year led by TE Garrett Mills. Fresno State has the talent to hang punch-for-punch with USC and should by focused after a rocky end to its regular season. The best matchup of the so-called mid-majors, Tulsa comes off a great win over UCF, while Fresno St. is looking to make amends for blowing its season with losses to Nevada and La. Tech. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

EV1.NET HOUSTON BOWL
TCU
TCU
(10-1)
HOUSTON BOWL
December 31, 2005
2:30 pm EST - ESPN2
Houston, TX
Iowa State
Most college football fans haven't had a chance to see much of these two solid teams. When 100% healthy, Iowa State is the best team from the Big 12 North, while TCU blew through its first season in the Mountain West with a balanced, exciting offense and a great, fast defense. TCU is on a nine-game winning streak and looking for an amazing 11-win season, while Iowa State looks to put its choke against Kansas, and missing out on playing for the Big 12 title, in the past. This will be a great win for either team. - Click here for college bowl gambling lines

January 2, 2005
AT&T COTTON BOWL
Texas Tech
(9-2)
COTTON BOWL
January 2, 2005
11:00 am EST- FOX
Dallas , TX
Alabama
(9-2)
Alabama
There isn't a better battle of ying vs. yang, as Texas Tech, and the nation's number one passing offense, and number two total offense, face Alabama, and the nation's number one scoring defense and number two total defense. Alabama is fourth in the nation in pass defense. There's a bit of "prove it" when it comes to these two. Texas Tech's best win this year was in a last-second, controversial touchdown run against Oklahoma, while Alabama lost its final two games of the season. After the Tide lost to Minnesota in last year's Music City Bowl, this is a must-win. - Click here for BCS Bowl Game Wagering Lines

OUTBACK BOWL
Iowa
Iowa
(7-4)
OUTBACK BOWL
January 2, 2005
11:00 am EST - ESPN
Tampa, FL
Florida
(8-3)
Florida
Iowa beat Florida in the 2004 Outback Bowl in a 37-17 stunner. This year's Hawkeye team features one of the nation's best linebacking corps led by Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge, while Florida looks to show that the spread can work against a good defense. After all of the problems and disappointments, Florida and head coach Urban Meyer can finish with a solid nine-win season and an important stepping-stone win over the improving Hawkeyes. Iowa can use this to create a buzz going into next year when it should be a top 15 team.- Click here for BCS Bowl Game Wagering Lines

TOYOTA GATOR BOWL
Louisville
GATOR BOWL
January 2, 2005
12:30 pm EST - NBC
Jacksonville, FL
Virginia Tech
Even without QB Brian Brohm, Louisville still has one of the nation's best offenses ranking third in the nation in scoring and seventh in total offense. Virginia Tech, even after the mental meltdown against Florida State in the ACC title game, is number one in the nation in total defense. Louisville can give the Big East a huge win by beating a former conference power. Few teams have blown out teams like these two have; it should be a firefight, even with Virginia Tech's great defense good enough to keep Michael Bush and the Cardinals down. - Click here for BCS Bowl Game Wagering Lines

CAPITAL ONE BOWL
Wisconsin
CAPITAL ONE BOWL
January 2, 2005
1:00 pm EST - ABC
Orlando, FL
Auburn
(9-2)
Auburn
Brian Calhoun and Auburn's Kenny Irons should put on a great show. You could make a case that Auburn was the SEC's best team at the end of the regular season. It's going to have to deal with a fired up Wisconsin team looking to send Barry Alvarez out a winner in his final game. These two played in the Music City Bowl two years ago with Auburn winning 28-14. The Badgers would love an impressive win before going into the Bret Bielema era, while Auburn wants to use a win to launch what should be a huge 2006. - Click here for BCS Bowl Game Wagering Lines

TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL
Notre Dame
TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL
January 2, 2005
4:30 pm EST - ABC
Tempe, AZ
Ohio St.
While Texas vs. USC will get all the hype, this will be a close No. 2. They've only played four times, with the last meeting in 1996 with the Buckeyes winning. By far, this will be the best defense Notre Dame faced all year, while Ohio State has to prove it can handle the Irish passing attack. Notre Dame is 2-2 against Ohio State winning two straight ... in 1935 and 1936. Charlie Weis can put his stamp on a historical win by getting past the
