WEEK 15 GAME BY GAME PREVIEWS >>
|
2005 COLLEGE BOWL
PREVIEWS |
December
20, 2005
| |
|
| It's
the first bowl game of the
season with Southern Miss
looking to win its second
straight New Orleans Bowl.
Arkansas State is in its
first bowl game led by Antonio
Warren and a solid running
game. You'll have gone 17
days without a college football
game. You need this. It's
a New Orleans Bowl that
isn't in New Orleans, and
also without North Texas.
The Indians provide some
new blood and some new excitement
to the game. They'll feel
disrespected and should
play very, very hard. -

GMAC
BOWL
December 21, 2005
8:00 pm EST - ESPN
Mobile, AL
|
|
|
|
| Toledo's
Bruce Gradkowski and UTEP's
Jordan Palmer should combine
to throw at least seven
touchdown passes, while
1,000 yards of total offense
isn't out of the question.
This is why there are bowl
games. It's a meaningless
game between two mid-major
also-rans, but it should
be one of the season's top
shootouts. These were two
disappointing teams in their
respective conference races,
but this will be a hard-fought
battle. - Click

PIONEER
PUREVISION LAS VEGAS
BOWL |
|
|
| BYU
is eight in the nation in
total offense while Cal
is tenth in the country
in rushing offense. This
should be a high-scoring
offensive slugfest with
at least four scoring plays
of 40 yards or more. Both
teams have something to
prove. BYU would love nothing
more than to give the Mountain
West a win over a name Pac
10 team, while Cal will
try to cap off a disappointing
season with an impressive
bowl win to make up for
last year's gaffe against
Texas Tech. - Click

SAN
DIEGO COUNTY CREDIT
UNION POINSETTIA
BOWL |
|
|
| This
will be a contrast of offenses
when the Ram passing attack
goes against the nation's
No. 1 ground game. If you
enjoy the option, Navy is
as much fun to watch as
any team in the country.
Navy beat the Mountain West's
New Mexico in a bowl game
last year, and will give
the Rams a tough, sixty
minute challenge. Colorado
State is back in the post-season
and could use a good showing
to start to get Sonny Lubick's
program back on the map.-

|
| Houston
QB Kevin Kolb is one of
the most exciting all-around
players in the nation, for
good and bad. He'll throw
interceptions and make some
bad plays, but he'll also
connect on a few deep passes.
The last time Houston was
in a bowl game was against
Hawaii two years ago in
a classic 54-48 loss. Kansas
is third in the nation in
run defense and 19th in
total D, while UH is 14th
in total offense. This is
an important game for C-USA
to show that it can hang
with the big conferences.

HAWAII
BOWL
December 23, 2005
8:30 pm EST - ESPN
Honoluu, Hawaii |
|
|
|
| Both
teams have balanced, steady
offenses good enough to
put up big yards. If Nevada
plays like it did against
Fresno State, and UCF plays
like it did in the first
half against Tulsa, this
will be fun. It's UCF's
first bowl ever. It's a
battle between the coach's
coaches. UCF's George O'Leary
might be the national coach
of the year after taking
a winless team to the Conference
USA title game. Hall of
Famer Chris Ault has turned
around Nevada bringing the
program a piece of the WAC
title. - Click

| Akron
returns to Detroit after
winning a thrilling MAC
championship game. The Zips
have the MAC's best defense,
and a balanced, occasionally
exciting offense with good
playmakers. It's the final
game for Memphis RB DeAngelo
Williams as he closes out
his College Football Hall
of Fame career. This is
a very, very important game
