NFL Week 3 is a crucial week not only for all NFL teams, but also for profit making in the handicapping business. This week and weekend provides many teams 3rd or in some cases 4th games, and it is a dress rehearsal for numerous teams in their 3rd game with their starters, before the final week of preseason games, used primarily to narrow down the roster to 53 players and rest and heal their starters for Week 1 regular season action.

Who has impressed and who has been a disappointment so far? One can only judge skin deep in the preseason, it is full of intangibles as coaches are looking for different things on their team, and many times winning is only secondary, but in week 3, that attitude changes somewhat. Lets take a look at some teams and what the priority will be heading into this weekend, expected to be my personal biggest and best of the preseason, with a 2003 and 2004 combined record in week 3 of 6-0 ATS, and I am licking my chops again.

The Colts, who are 0-3, may be looking for a win, and these losses include a trip to Japan, and 2 home losses in the preseason. The injury bug is in camp, which has to make Tony Dungy nervous, and losing safety Bob Sanders this week, in an already depleted secondary will have Denver licking their chops on Saturday on primetime TV, in a key match up. The Colts have averaged a horrible 17 yards per game in rushing and have been a mistake prone team, so this is a crucial game for them, and maybe they can win one on the road, since at home they have been beaten by Buffalo and Chicago. Denver enters here with their offense clicking, having 27 first downs against the Niners this weekend, and running the ball for 266 yards in that 26-21 win. At 1-1 on the preseason, look for Shanahan not to lay down this weekend by any stretch at home, so this is a big ballgame for both teams, especially the Colts who better work out the kinks on offense.

Kansas City is 0-2 in the preseason and a home game against Seattle this weekend. They have had problems with turnovers, 4 last week, and will look to play the starters this Saturday more at home, in front of a sell out crowd and get a win. Seattle (playing Monday at press time for this article), have looked good on offense this preseason and may be looking to spread it out against KC more on Saturday, but they are on a short week and have to travel, advantage KC in this one.

These are 2 examples of crucial games this weekend, and there are many of these scenarios where coaches want to establish a winning attitude as the season nears and others want to fill out the roster and give good looks for position players battling for a starting role, and some include QB situations. Look these games over closely in Week 3, because opportunity will provide profits this week and weekend.
