BIG 12 PREDICTIONS
tony george - Tony's Weekly
Big 12 Reports
A NEW FEATURE, as my specialty is Big
12 Football, at least a 66% ATS record in football
in the Big 12 over the past 2 seasons indicated I
might know a thing or two about this conference. Weekly
I will feature my Big 12 Game of the Week as a premium
play, but also take a look around the conference and
post some news and notes for you. In the opening week
of College Football, some of the Big 12 schools are
in action, here are my takes.
BIG 12 BETTING
PREDICTIONS - Nebraska vs. Maine- Time for
the Huskers to rebound off a 5-6 season, and who better
than the Bears from Maine as a patsy opener in Lincoln.
There Huskers start a new QB in JUCO transfer Zac
Taylor running the West Coast offense, against the
blitzing Bears, who did beat Mississippi State last
year 9-7, but look for an un-lined game here to be
a blowout and a glorified scrimmage for the Huskers
who take on Wake Forest next week in Lincoln. A CRUCIAL
game in Lincoln as the natives are restless, did I
mention I live in Lincoln? Time will tell for Nebraska,
and I doubt they throw the entire playbook out there
this week, as they plan on rotating many players this
week if things go well. Huskers by 30.
TCU vs. Oklahoma
(-26) - THIS IS MY FEATURED PLAY OF THE WEEK!
BIG 12 BETTING
PREDICTIONS - Colorado (-8) vs. Colorado State-
This game is in Boulder this year versus being in
Denver, so advantage Buffalo's here, as QB Joe Klatt
for the Buffalo's breaks in all new receivers and
head coach Gary Barnett looks to find a running game
and pass defense this season, and what a tough opener.
The Golden Rams had a rare losing season last year
and head guy Sonny Lubick looks to 2005 as a better
season, and with a tandem of QB's and 3 solid WR's,
I look for Colorado State to hang tough. The underdog
in this series has covered 6 out of 8, but that was
on a neutral site. A small side with the dog in this
one, I think Colorado is overrated.

BIG 12 BETTING
PREDICTIONS - Missouri (-26) vs. Arkansas State -
This game is at Arrowhead in Kansas City, and a showcase
for the Tigers to open up their new spread attack
on offense featuring all world QB Brad Smith, who
is now the featured offensive weapon for Missou. I
am not sure 26 points is an easy task, as Missouri
will be breaking in a new offense and testing receivers
and RB's in a game situation, so mistakes could happen.
Coach Gary Pinkel is on the hot seat this year, so
if he is up big, he may drop the throttle. Stopping
Arkansas State RB Warren will be the key, and I think
Missouri\'s front line on defense will blow ASU off
the ball.
BIG 12 BETTING
PREDICTIONS - Kansas (-20) vs. Florida Atlantic
- A rare time for the Jayhawks to be a double digit
favorite, and covering that number will be in question.
The strength of Kansas is defense, the weakness is
offense, and with a QB situation brewing and no running
game in hand, this is a crucial test early for Kansas
to get a confidence boost with a blowout win and get
this young offense some experience. Florida Atlantic
has a good QB and a decent defense and won some games
against big time schools last year, they beat Hawaii
and North Texas, both on the road. No pushover for
Kansas, but I see them with a double digit win here.
These are my featured games this week
in the Big 12, next week many teams from the Southern
Division get going and we'll have some takes on those
games.
