that will help you handicap games in the future.
College football is filled with quirky plays,
misleading scores and surprise endings. Fargo
takes you inside the action.
T-C-U 23 Utah 20
It took overtime to end Utah's 18-game winning
streak. A very questionable no call on the final
play gave TCU the win after the Horned Frogs held
the Utes to a field goal in their overtime possession.
It was nearly even as both teams had 14 first
downs while Utah had just one more total yard
that TCU. The Horned Frogs wore out the Utes in
the second half with a rushing attack that gained
228 yards on 46 carries (5.0 ypc).
TEXAS-EL PASO 44 Houston 41
The offense picked up in the second half after
turnovers ruled the first 30 minutes. Houston
committed four first half turnovers while the
Miners had four as well. Houston had a 14-point
lead midway through the third quarter but UTEP
ran off 22 unanswered points before the Cougars
tied the game with a late touchdown to send it
to overtime. UTEP was in the redzone on its final
seven second half possessions.
(11) LOUISVILLE 63 Oregon State 27
Louisville allowed the Beavers to take a 10-0
lead before scoring the next 42 points to blow
the game wide open. The Cardinals racked up 553
yards of total offense including 428 yards through
the air. Oregon St. had more first downs but that
was due to Louisville having more big plays as
it averaged 11.1 ypp compared to the Beavers 4.5
ypp. Oregon St. was held to 42 yards rushing on
35 carries (1.2 ypc).
West Virginia 31 MARYLAND 19
West Virginia only outgained the Terrapins by
36 total yards but used 301 yards rushing on 64
carries (4.7 ypc) to control over 11 minutes more
of the clock. The Mountaineers had three touchdown
drives of 73 yards or more, the last one giving
them a late nine-point lead. Maryland was inside
the West Virginia 40-yard line four times in the
first half but got only three points. 37 points
were scored in the final quarter.
(25) Virginia 27 SYRACUSE 24
Virginia kicked the game winning field goal as
time expired holding off a big Syracuse rally.
The Cavaliers had a 10-point lead heading into
the final quarter but the Orange used two 11-play
drives to tie the score. Virginia then responded
with a 6:25 drive that killed the remaining time.
Syracuse was held to just 80 yards rushing on
36 carries (2.2 ypc) while Virginia tallied 271
yards on 44 carries (6.2 ypc).
(14) MICHIGAN 55 Eastern Mich 0
Michigan rebounded from the Notre Dame loss in
a big way as it outgained the Eagles 465-134.
Eastern Michigan had only 10 first downs and was
held to 15 yards rushing on 24 carries (0.6 ypc).
The Eagles crossed midfield only twice all day
and never got past the Michigan 31-yard line.
Michigan scored on nine of its 11 possessions
including four straight drives that were 11 plays
or more.
TEXAS A&M 66 S-M-U 8
The Aggies started the scoring with a blocked
punt for a touchdown but the Mustangs hung tough
for a quarter and a half. A fumble at the Texas
A&M one-yard line turned the game around as the
Aggies scored the game's final 49 points. Texas
A&M piled up 714 yards of offense including 309
yards rushing on 44 carries (7.0 ypc). SMU was
intercepted, fumbled or turned it over on downs
in eight of its last nine drives.
VANDERBILT 31 Ole Miss 23
Vanderbilt gained 523 yards of offense but the
special teams made the biggest play after Mississippi
scored the possible game-tying touchdown on a
punt return. The Commodores blocked the extra
point and then drove 64 yards to take an eight-point
lead. The Rebels were stopped on their final possession
on a fumble to end the game. Mississippi was held
to five straight drives of four plays or less
to end the first half.
Toledo 42 TEMPLE 17
Temple was outgained by only 12 yards as the defense
did a decent job in holding the Rockets to 393
yards of offense. Toledo took a 28-0 lead early
in the second quarter thanks to an early Owls
fumble and an interception return for a touchdown.
Temple crossed midfield seven times but two turnovers
and two turnovers on downs killed four drives.
(7) GEORGIA 44 UL-Monroe 7
Georgia outgained the Indians 543-211 while UL-Monroe
committed four turnovers that led to 20 Bulldog
points. The Bulldogs forced five punts and a turnover
on the Indians first six possessions but were
only able to build a 17-0 lead because of a missed
field goal and a fumble inside the UL-Monroe 30-yard
line. The biggest highlight for the Bulldogs was
a 58-yard field goal by Brandon Coutu.
MISSOURI 52 Troy 21
Missouri got its revenge in a big way as the Tigers
racked up 514 yards of offense and held the Trojans
to just 162 yards in their first nine possessions.
Missouri scored on its first four drives of the
second half as it opened up a 45-14 lead. Troy
was held to 74 yards on the ground on 30 carries
(2.5 ypc) while the Tigers rushed for 303 yards
on 49 carries (6.2 ypc).
Wyoming 29 AIR FORCE 28
This game was back and forth the whole way as
Wyoming scored the game-winning touchdown with
just 1:25 remaining and then picked off the Falcons
to secure the game. Air Force took a six-point
lead late in the fourth quarter but instead of
kicking the extra point, it went for two and missed.
Three Falcons turnovers led to 10 points for Wyoming
while a fumble by the Cowboys led to an Air Force
touchdown.
AUBURN 63 Ball State 3
Auburn outgained the Cardinals 572-220 and the
Tigers were as efficient as possible as they scored
a touchdown on every offensive possession. Auburn
also added a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown
following a Ball St. field goal. Auburn had six
scoring drives that were 68 yards or longer while
four of those lasted nine plays or more. The Tigers
rushed for 390 yards on 35 carries (11.1 ypc).
Baylor 20 ARMY 10
Army was held out of the endzone until the final
45 seconds of the game as the Cadets used a 61-yard
drive to cut the final deficit to 10 points. Army
missed three field goals on the day while an interception
late in the fourth quarter led to a short touchdown
drive by the Bears. The Cadets were held to just
56 yards rushing on 40 carries (1.4 ypc).
(13) Miami-Florida 36 (20) CLEMSON 30
A low scoring defensive game turned into a high
scoring game thanks to three overtimes. Miami
held a late 20-10 lead but Clemson rallied with
an 81-yard touchdown drive and a 27-yard field
goal with 15 seconds remaining. The Tigers has
1st and goal at the Miami 10-yard line but three
incomplete passes forced the field goal try. Miami
intercepted the Tigers in the 3rd OT after scoring
a touchdown on its possession.
Michigan State 44 (10) NOTRE DAME 41
A wild game saw Notre Dame rally from a 21-point
third quarter deficit to send the game into overtime.
Michigan St. couldn't be stopped early on but
the Irish defense came up big late in the game
by holding the Spartans to just 52 yards in the
final quarter on four drives. The Irish missed
many opportunities as they fumbled at the Spartans
seven-yard line and turned it over on downs at
the 21-yard line.

Washington broke open a close game with 17 third
quarter points to pull away. The Huskies held
Idaho to -4 yards rushing on 31 carries (-0.1
ypc) but the Vandals still held the time of possession
advantage by nearly 10 minutes. Washington scored
four touchdowns on the day from its offense yet
the Huskies did not convert one third down conversion,
going 0-9.
NEBRASKA 7 Pittsburgh 6
The defenses were the dominant forces here as
expected, as both offenses could get nothing going
on the day. Pittsburgh outgained the Huskers 304-267
but special teams came up huge for Nebraska once
again. They blocked two field goals including
a 46-yard attempt at time expired to preserve
the win. The Panthers were inside the Nebraska
32-yard line five times but came away with just
six points.
(4) VIRGINIA TECH 45 Ohio U 0
The Ohio offense struggled once again as the Bobcats
gained just 189 total yards and had only 10 first
downs. 21 of Virginia Tech's points came off turnovers
while Ohio failed to convert twice in the redzone.

Alabama scored its most amount of points in its
last nine games as the Tide outgained the Gamecocks

in eight drives after that first touchdown was
scored.
U-C-L-A 41 (21) Oklahoma 24
Oklahoma actually outgained the Bruins 398-397
but three fumbles led to 17 UCLA points including
one retuned for a touchdown. The Bruins had only
one drive more than 56 yards while the Sooners
had four that surpassed that amount. Oklahoma
was down by just three points entering the final
quarter but UCLA scored touchdowns on three consecutive
drives to pull away.
(9) OHIO STATE 27 San Diego St 6
San Diego St. jumped out to a 6-0 lead 11 seconds
into the game on an 80-yard touchdown pass but
Ohio St. allowed just 99 total yards the rest
of the way. The Aztecs never crossed midfield
again as 11 punts and one fumble summed up the
rest of their day. The Buckeyes were not very
good on offense, as they gained just 375 yards
and only one of their scoring drives was more
than 32 yards.
PENN STATE 40 Central Mich 3
Penn St. racked up 519 yards of offense while
the defense held the Chippewas to only 172 total
yard
