Miami (Ohio) 44, Cincinnati 10
Miami jumped out to a 17-0 lead and never looked
back. The RedHawks outgained Cincinnati 539-314
and the Bearcats were stung by five interceptions
that led to 17 points for Miami. Miami held
the Bearcats to 66 yards rushing on 27 carries
(2.4 ypc). Both teams were guilty of plenty
of infractions as 21 flags were thrown for 228
yards in penalties combined.
Colorado St. 41, Air Force 23
Colorado racked up 551 yards of total offense
but it wasn't until the second half that the
Rams were able to move the ball, as 335 of those
yards came in the final 30 minutes. Both teams
had plenty of success on the ground as Air Force
rushed for 227 yards on 44 carries (5.2 ypc)
while the Rams gained 213 yards on 42 carries
(5.1 ypc). The Falcons had to settle for three
redzone field goals in the first half.
Rutgers 37, Pittsburgh 29
Pittsburgh fell behind 27-0 at the break and
it ended up being too much for the Panthers
to recover from. Rutgers outgained Pittsburgh
453-360 and used a punt return for a touchdown
to build the big first half lead. Pittsburgh
had a couple chances late to try and tie the
game but a costly sack and then an interception
sealed the deal. The Panthers rushed for -11
yards on 25 carries (-0.4 ypc).
Boston College 38, Ball St. 0
Suspensions killed Ball St. once again as Boston
College dominated by outgaining the Cardinals
471-159 and holding them to only 11 first downs.
The Eagles used a balanced attack of 223 yards
rushing and 248 yards passing. Ball St. recovered
a fumble to set up its only scoring chance but
missed a field goal. The Eagles finished 8-12
on third down conversions.
Connecticut 47, Army 13
Connecticut finished with just 347 total yards
but four Army interceptions led to 24 points
for the Huskies. The last two Connecticut touchdowns
were on interception returns for scores. The
Huskies would have scored on every first half
possession but they missed three field goals.
The Army defense strengthened in the second
half, allowing only 101 total yards.
Penn St. 44, Minnesota 14
Penn St. held the Gophers to only 113 yards
rushing on 32 carries (3.5 ypc) while the Nittany
Lion offense racked up 539 total yards. Penn
St. finished with 364 yards rushing on 59 carries
(6.2 ypc). The Nittany Lions crossed midfield
on their first 10 possessions and punted only
twice in the game. Penn St ran 31 more plays
that Minnesota and finished 13-19 on third down
conversions.
Virginia Tech 34, West Virginia 17
Virginia Tech forced two Mountaineers fumbles,
which led to two short touchdown drives. The
Hokies controlled the clock for nearly 15 minutes
more including 11 minutes more in the second
half. West Virginia had three lengthy scoring
drives but the Mountaineers managed only 11
total yards in their other seven possessions.
Alabama 31, Florida 3
Alabama outgained the Gators by just 81 total
yards but most of the Florida yardage was gained
in the second half when the game was all but
decided. Florida was hurt by an interception
returned to its own two-yard line that set up
a Tide touchdown. The Gators also turned the
ball over on downs twice, once at the 11-yard
line and once at the one-yard line.
Auburn 48, South Carolina 7
The Auburn defense held South Carolina to just
199 total yards and seven first downs with 81
of those yards coming on the last Gamecocks
possession. South Carolina didn't have a drive
longer than 18 yards in its first 12 possessions.
The Tigers scored on eight of their first 11
possessions, which included a missed field goal
as well.
Florida St. 38, Syracuse 14
The Seminoles tallied 512 yards of total offense
while holding Syracuse to just 234 total yards
including 45 yards rushing on 31 carries (1.5
ypc). The Orange committed four turnovers, the
first of which occurred in the Florida St. redzone
and killed the chance for an early lead. Syracuse
didn't have a drive longer than 34 yards until
its final possession that resulted in a touchdown.
LSU 37, Mississippi St. 7
Mississippi St. jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks
to a long touchdown pass but the Tigers responded
by scoring the final 37 points of the game.
The Bulldogs were held to only 149 total yards
the rest of the game as they finished with just
56 yards rushing on 28 carries (2.0 ypc). LSU
scored touchdowns on its first three possessions
of the second half to put the game away.
Louisiana Tech 34, New Mexico St. 14
The Bulldogs built a 34-0 lead through three
quarters as the defense held New Mexico St.
scoreless thanks to six turnovers. Louisiana
Tech had five drives that were 10 plays or more
and that was the main reason for a 13-minute
edge in time of possession. The Aggies finished
with just 73 less yards on offense but the mistakes
kept them out of the game the entire time.

held the Indians in check throughout the second
half gave up a 68-yard touchdown drive in just
46 seconds. UL-Monroe jumped out to a 21-7 lead
after scoring on its first three possessions
of the game. Arkansas St. had four consecutive
possessions in the second half that gained 160
yards but it managed just six points.

Louisville got back on track with 608 yards
of total offense and 25 first downs. The defense

yards for the Owls including 15 yards rushing

able to generate 326 yards rushing on 41 carries
(8.0 ypc). Louisville was inside the Florida
Atlantic eight-yard line in its last 11 possessions.
Marshall 16, SMU 13, OT
The SMU defense shut out Marshall for three
and a half quarters but the Herd rallied for
10 late points to send the game into overtime
and eventually pull out the win. Marshall outgained
the Mustangs 413-191 while SMU had just seven
first downs on the day. The Herd crossed midfield
on six of their first nine drives but came away
with nothing.
Maryland 45, Virginia 33
Maryland put up 570 yards of total offense,
254 of which came on its last three possessions
that resulted in three touchdowns. Virginia
scored on four straight possessions in the second
and third quarters but all four ended up being
field goals. Part of the problem with finishing
drives was that Maryland was able to sack the
quarterback seven times on the day.
Memphis 27, UTEP 20
Turnovers killed UTEP as the Miners finished
with six turnovers on the night with the final
three leading to 17 Memphis points. Four of
those turnovers were inside the Tigers 30-yard
line. UTEP easily outgained the Tigers 505-374
and tied the game with four minutes left. However,
an interception when the Miners got the ball
back led to the nine-yard winning touchdown
drive for Memphis.
Miami 27, South Florida 7
Miami gained only 351 total yards but it was
the defense that stole the slow, holding the
Bulls to just 174 total yards. 78 of those yards
came on South Florida's second to last possession,
which led to its only score of the day. The
Bulls had only 88 total yards up to that point.
The Hurricanes were sloppy with four turnovers
and seven penalties and were just 4-6 inside
the redzone.
Middle Tennessee 17, Vanderbilt 15
The Vanderbilt defense held the Blue Raiders
to 209 total yards and 11 first downs but Middle
Tennessee used an interception to set up its
first touchdown on a two-yard scoring drive.
The Blue Raiders defense played well enough
to force four field goals, the final 36-yarder
being blocked to secure the win. Vanderbilt
finished with 23 first downs but the three longest
drives resulted in field goal tries.
Navy 28, Duke 21
Navy ran all over Duke, gaining 326 yards on
the ground on 35 carries (9.3 ypc). Despite
the big rushing edge, the Midshipmen needed
a late touchdown to pull out the win. Duke had
big edges in first downs (20-13), time of possession
(39-21) and third down conversions (12-20, 4-9)
but the Blue Devils were forced to settle for
two field goals which was the ultimate difference.
North Carolina 31, Utah 17
Utah outgained the Tar Heels 378-352 but North
Carolina returned the opening kickoff for a
touchdown and converted five Utes turnovers
into 17 points. Utah gained the great majority

the time where four of its turnovers occurred.
The Utes were also hurt by committing 12 penalties
totaling 101 yards.
Southern Miss. 33, East Carolina 7
The Golden Eagles piles up 493 yards of total
offense and while the defense yielded 363 yards,
they allowed just seven points. The defense

line on all but one of their 11 possessions.
Tennessee 27, Mississippi 10
The Tennessee offense came out of the gate for
the first time all season, gaining 197 of its
378 total yards in the first half. Mississippi
was held to only 50 yards rushing on 25 carries
(2.0 ypc) and the Rebels didn't get into the
endzone until early in the fourth quarter. The
Volunteers squandered four opportunities by
missing two field goals and turning the ball
over on downs twice inside the Missis
