CAMP
OBJECTIVES: Most of the media focus
during Bills camp will be on the quarterback
position, where second-year man J.P. Losman
will be taking over full-time for the departed
Drew Bledsoe. Offensive coordinator Tom
Clements is expected to install more plays
that take advantage of Losman's mobility,
and the entire offense will have to adjust
to those changes. New backup QB Kelly Holcomb,
formerly with the Browns, must also be indoctrinated
in the Buffalo scheme. The Bills will be
welcoming a new left side on the offensive
line, with free agent pickups Mike Gandy
(Chicago) and Bennie Anderson (Baltimore)
taking over at tackle and guard, respectively.
Defensively, the number one unknown for
coordinator Jerry Gray will be the ability
of tackles Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson
to occupy the slot formerly filled by Pat
Williams, now a Viking. In the secondary,
Troy Vincent moves from cornerback to free
safety, and Terrence McGee must adjust to
a full-time role opposite Nate Clements
at cornerback.
