NFL Bet: Pittsburgh Steelers
Against The Spread Betting Trends

The Pittsburgh
Steelers are a different team than from last
year. Evidenced by their domination of both
the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns,
the Steelers are much better offensively than
they were last year. Willie Parker is running
well, Big Ben Rothlisberger is throwing well,
and Santonio Holmes has found a home in the Steeler’s
offense.
Because of that, the NFL betting angle that
I am going to present below is actually much
more powerful than the numbers dictate. With
a strong offense to go along with their dominating
defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of two
teams who could challenge the New England Patriots
in the AFC.
Here is the strongest NFL betting angle regarding
the Pittsburgh Steelers:
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 28-8 against the
spread versus passing teams averaging 7 or more
passing yards per attempt.
What this implies is that teams that try to
stretch the field vertically against the Steelers
have little success. Even though we are two games
into the NFL regular season, this incredibly
powerful angle provides numerous opportunities
for NFL bettors and it starts this weekend!
09/23/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (home)
versus San Francisco 49ers – Even though
the 49ers average 5.2 yards per pass attempt,
and not 7, NFL bettors should adjust that to
around 7 because of San Fran’s tendency
to throw swing passes to Frank Gore. Those are
considered passes to NFL statisticians and not
runs. Coach Tomlin’s group will be looking
to tackle Gore in the backfield this weekend
and get numerous sacks against the 49ers QB,
Alex Smith. San Francisco will adjust by trying
to go north to their wide receivers. Expect the
Steelers to win this one by at least 10 points.
09/30/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (on the
road) versus Arizona Cardinals – Talking
about a vertical passing team! The Cardinal’s
love to stretch the field vertically with Larry
Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. They’re averaging
6.17 per attempt, which technically doesn’t
qualify, but…c’mon! These are the
Cardinals! Wait until the Cardinals play the
Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. They have no choice
but to go after the Ravens’ cornerbacks
as Baltimore will definitely stuff the Cardinal’s
run game. After that game, the Cardinal’s
game versus the Steelers will qualify under the
Pittsburgh Steelers’ betting angle.
10/07/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (home)
versus Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks
average 8.8 yard per pass attempt. That works
well within the angle.
10/21/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (on the
road) versus Denver Broncos – the Broncos
average 7.96 per pass attempt. Not only is that
well within the parameters of the against the
spread betting angle for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
but the Broncos tendency to call counters with
their running backs and pull their guards plays
to the Steelers’ defensive strengths.
10/28/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (at home)
versus Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals
average 7.26 yards per pass attempt. That means
they qualify under the parameters of the betting
angle.
12/02/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (on the
road) versus Cincinnati Bengals – See above.
12/09/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers (on the
road) versus New England Patriots – The
Patriots, after two games, have averaged an incredible
9.76 yard per pass attempt and they’ve
done it versus the Chicago Bears and San Diego
Chargers. This could be an excellent game to
wager on as the Steelers figure to get a lot
of points from the Patriots.
12/20/2007 Pittsburgh
Steelers (on the road) versus St. Louis Rams – Even though after
two games the Rams only average 6.45 yards per
pass attempt, I’ve included this game because,
like the Cardinals, the Rams will have no choice
but to start airing it out. They’ve been
trying so far, but they will do it even more
so as Steven Jackson gets going and NFL defenses
start keying on him.
Based on this angle, NFL bettors have the opportunity
to wager on no less than eight Pittsburgh Steeler
games. Pay particularly close attention to the
game versus the Patriots. The Patriots might
be undefeated going into this game and the money-line
might be very, very juicy.
Until next week, good luck!
