Sunday, NFL betting fanatics will be treated
to a stellar NFC East rivalry match up when the
New York Giants take on
the hosting Dallas Cowboys on primetime (8:15pm).
The Giants and Cowboys have split their last
eight games straight up, including two meetings
last season. In the first meeting, the Giants
scored a 36-22 cover win as the 3-point underdogs
on the road. Dallas was again favored by 3 points
in the second meeting and beat New York 23-20
on Dec. 3, 2007 at Giants Stadium which resulted
in a push.
The Cowboys finished the season 8-7-1 against
the spread, while the Giants went 7-8-1. Dallas
failed to cover the NFL spread in their final
three home games. New York covered the spread
in their final three road games, which includes
a cover against Philadelphia in a 26-23 straight
up loss in the NFC wild card game.
Dallas returns 10 offensive starters from the
unit that scored 26.6 points per game for the
third-most points in the NFL last season. Tony
Romo, who made the Pro Bowl last year, will again
be calling signals for the Cowboys. In 2006,
Romo passed for 2,903 yards and 16 touchdowns
with 13 interceptions.
Despite not having running back Tiki Barber,
New York's offense has the potential to put them
in the playoffs, with a skilled receiving corps
consisting of Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey,
Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, rookie Steve Smith
and Sinorice Moss.
Eli Manning will be under center for the Giants.
The former No. 1 overall pick has had second-half
slumps in each of his three seasons in the NFL.
Last year, Manning passed for 3,244 yards and
24 touchdowns with 18 interceptions.
Coordinator Steve Spagnulo will be taking over
the Giants defense, who allowed 22.6 points per
game last year and 342.4 yards. The unit will
have defensive end Michael Strahan that signed
on with the team Tuesday following a holdout.
NFL odds have Dallas listed as the 6.5-point
favorites with a total of 44. This game will
mark the debut of head coach Wade Phillips for
the Cowboys. Expect an inspired and rejuvenated
Dallas team that should be able to cover the
spread in this physical contest.
