The Jets are going to have to rely on the running
game if they want to win this one at home against
the Dolphins, who have allowed just two touchdowns
through the air, compared to five that the Jets
have allowed. Also, the Dolphins defense has
two picks, while the Jets D has yet to record
an interception. NFL betting on this game is
a bit tricky, as neither team has much of an
advantage on paper in many stat areas.

That aside, the Dolphins are allowing opposing
quarterbacks to post just a 76.1 rating. The
Jets are allowing opposing quarterbacks to walk
all over them, averaging 199.9; Kyle Boller posted
a 97.9 rating and Tom Brady was close to perfect.
As far as the rushing game goes, however, neither
of these two has been able to accomplish much
on the ground offensively. In fact, the Jets,
with a 64.5-yard average, are just one yard shy
of being tied with the Dolphins for the dubious
title of worst rushing attack in the NFL.
What does this mean for bettors who are thinking
of doing a little football betting on this game?
With the Jets favored by 3-points at home, the
oddsmakers obviously are of the persuasion that
the two are relatively evenly matched. When oddsmakers
think that way, they give three points to the
home team.
Looking at last
week’s games, though,
tells us that the Jets were just a dropped pass
from coming back to tie the game – from
17 points down – against what many consider
to be the best defense in the league: the Ravens.
And that was with their second-string quarterback
at the helm.
Miami’s new
quarterback, however, Trent Green was responsible
for five turnovers, including three interceptions
returned for 66 yards. Of course, that was
against the Cowboys defense, which is much
better than what the Jets will field next week.
Still, the Jets showed a lot of perseverance
this past Sunday, while the Dolphins were deflated.
With Chad Pennington sounding very likely to
return to the field and a measure of pride needing
to be extracted in this home tilt, look for the
Jets to cover the 3-point spread in a game where
they get their ground attack on track and give
themselves a bit of hope for the season.
