NCAA Football betting overview of the AP Rankings
for Week 6 of the college season. For college
football wagering odds and lines on all the games,
head over to the BetUS
Sportsbook.
1. LSU Tigers (6-0)
LSU gambled heavy and won big against the Florida
Gators this weekend. Tim Tebow was killing
them defensively, but capitalizing on two turnovers
and the go-for-broke mentality of Les Miles
helped the Tigers remain undefeated and cemented
their top spot in the AP Rankings. They face
a tough tilt against Kentucky, where the nation’s
second best dual-threat, Andre Woodson, will
try to repeat Tebow’s performance against
the Tigers defense.
Next game: LSU (-9.5) vs. Kentucky
2. California Golden Bears (5-0)
This is new territory for the Bears, who haven’t
been this high in the AP since 1951. The Bears
rested this week, and their bye week was certainly
sent celebrating USC’s stunning loss to
the Stanford Cardinals. The Bears are 3-1 ATS,
and might be worth a gander in our NCAA football
futures as a huge sleeper to make it to the BCS
Championship game.
Next game: Oregon State vs. California (-14)
3. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0)
The Buckeyes cooled off the Purdue Boilermakers
in a fantastic 23-7 victory that highlighted
their stalwart defense once again. Quarterback
Todd Boeckman has to clean up his mistakes
for this team to continue its dominance. The
defense is playing amazingly and this top-3
ranking is well deserved, especially considering
that Ohio State wasn’t even ranked in
the preseason.
Next game: Kent State vs. Ohio State (-31)
4. Boston College Eagles (6-0)
Matt Ryan and the Eagles are at it again. The
schedule stiffens up with a tilt against Notre
Dame and a test against the Virginia Tech Hokies
around the corner. The Eagles continue to average
35.8 points per game while holding opponents
to 18.3 points. A 17.3 point differential ahs
the fans in Boston smiling. A 4-1 ATS record
has their betting faithful ear to ear.
Next game: Boston College (-14) vs. Notre Dame
5. South Florida Bulls (5-0)
The fifth ranked South Florida Bulls are a testament
to how insane this season has been. The Bulls
held off Florida Atlantic 35-23 with a strong
second half behind running back Benjamin Williams
who had four touchdowns and 186 yards. But
quarterback Matt Grothe had a horrible game.
They face a sterner test against the nation’s
leading rusher and Central Florida next week.
Something tells me the Bulls just don’t
have the staying power, despite theirs being
an inspiring underdog story.
Next game: Central Florida vs. South Florida
(-14)
6. Oklahoma Sooners (5-1)
What more can you say about Sam Bradford? After
crashing back to earth last weekend in a stunning
loss, Bradford and the Sooners dominated the
Red River Rivalry behind his 244 yard performance
that was highlighted by three touchdowns. This
was a massive bounce back performance for the
true freshman who played fantastically on the
road against a tough opponent.
Bradford’s favorite quote is “Let’s
get this”. If he continues to play at this
extraordinarily high level, the Sooner will be
getting some of that sweet BCS pie this winter.
Next game: Missouri vs. Oklahoma (-10)
7. South Carolina (5-1)
Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks flustered and
frustrated Heisman hopeful Andre Woodson on
national television and proved that their defense
can take care of business. They continue to
make their betting investors happy with a 4-1
ATS record and are favorites as they head in
to the Battle of the Carolinas this weekend.
Spurrier is a grizzled, smart and experienced
coach. He noted that it is only halfway through
the season, so he will keep his team focused
for the remaining six games of the season. But
these Gamecocks are great underdogs in our futures
section to take a flier on.
Next game: South Carolina (-6.5) vs. North Carolina
