NFL Week 4 Pick: Tampa Bay Bucs
( +3) vs. Carolina Panthers ( -3)

Nobody circled this game on the NFL betting
calendar when the schedules came out last April,
but, here we are. The Bucs and the Panthers are
leading the NFC South and now that the New Orleans
Saints have proven to be a disaster and the Atlanta
Falcons have issues on both the offensive and
defensive sides of the ball, Tampa Bay and Carolina
could stay right where they are - - battling
each other until the end of the year for NFC
South supremacy.
That makes this
game a key game in the NFC. Before jumping
on either team, notice that in order to bet
the Bucs you will have to risk -125 and that
in order to bet the Panthers you will be risking
+105. There’s a reason for that
which I will get into in the next few paragraphs,
but first:
BetUS NFL Betting Line: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
( +3, - 125) vs. Carolina Panthers ( -3, + 105).
Okay, now that
the true BetUS line is clear, I said before
that there is a reason that you are getting “odds” on the Panthers
even though they remain the favorite in this
game. That reason is the fact that the Panther’s
quarterback, Jake Delhomme, may not play in this
game. If Delhomme doesn’t play, then the
Panthers have no choice but to go to bust of
the decade, David Carr. The truth is that David
Carr has no chance in this game. He won’t
have the same rapport with superstar Panther
receiver Steve Smith, and Monte Kiffin’s
defensive schemes for the Bucs should find ways
to put Carr on his back. Also, the Panther’s
defense appears overrated at this point having
given up 20 points to the lackluster Atlanta
Falcons last week. The Panthers are pretty much
un-bettable in this game.
But, before dropping
a load on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, remember
that in order to get the 3 points you have
to risk 125. That’s 15
more dollars for every 100 that you would usually
risk in a straight-up game. That makes taking
the 3 points a fairly bad deal in this game because
the 3 points are probably not worth it for this
simple fact:
NFL Betting Trend: Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback
Jeff Garcia has won 3 consecutive starts against
the Panthers.
Does this trend mean anything? Hell, yeah, it
does! Garcia is the type of veteran who takes
notes and in this case, he will have taken notes
regarding how the Panthers play defense. John
Fox, the coach of the Panthers, has been there
for a long time and the Panthers pretty much
play the same scheme they have played for the
past six or seven years. That means Garcia goes
into this game really understanding what to do
against that Panther defense.
The smart wager in this game, then, is the money-line.
BetUS NFL Money-Line Wager: Tampay Bay Buccaneers
to win +130.
Forget risking too much in an up in the air
game for points and go after a trend that appears
will hold water in this game. Take the Bucs and
the money-line and watch David Carr step all
over his own feet.
