Okay NFL football bettors, a new season is just
around the corner and BetUS.com will once again
help bettors get a leg up on all the exciting
wagering action that lies ahead.
To that end, this column will give your NFL
betting some added insight into the happenings
of every team in the NFC for 2007.
The oddsmakers have instilled the Chicago Bears
(13-3 SU) as the favorite to win the NFC at +400,
as Chicago will likely be the best team in the
conference again this season barring an injury
to one of their key players.
The Bears were tied
for third in the league with three other teams
at 9-7 ATS, but posted the league’s second best O/U record at
11-4-1, trailing only the AFC’s Tennessee
Titans. Even with inconsistent quarterback Rex
Grossman at the helm, the Bears will be strong
across the board in all wagers again in 2007.
The New Orleans Saints proved time and again
last year that they were for real and the oddsmakers
have taken notice by instilling them as the No.
2 seed in the NFC at +500.
New Orleans posted
the conference’s best
ATS record at 10-6, besting the Bears by a game,
but were an even 8-8 in O/U wagers.
With a tougher schedule
in 2007, New Orleans will once again field
an explosive offense with Drew Brees, Reggie
Bush and Deuce McAllister. While there is no
way to stop that kind of offensive firepower,
the Saints’ fortunes will rest
with their defense.
The Philadelphia Eagles
are the conference’s
next team in terms of their odds of winning the
conference. At +600, the Eagles are an excellent
wager as they have a team that, barring injury,
could reach the conference championship game.
The Eagles went a
solid 8-7-1 ATS last season and 8-6-2 in O/U
wagers and will keep bettors in the black again
this season if quarterback Donovan McNabb doesn’t
go down with an injury.
The Dallas Cowboys (9-7 SU), look like they
will also be good for bettors this season after
putting up a respectable 8-7-1 ATS last season
and 9-4-3 record in O/U bets.
The Cowboys could take a big step forward in
2007, even though they lost sure-fire Hall of
Fame head coach Bill Parcells following last
season.
The hiring of veteran
NFL coach Wade Phillips will turn out to be
a stroke of genius as Phillips works his wonders
to make the Cowboys’ defensive
unit an even more cohesive and opportunistic
group next season.
The Seattle Seahawks (9-7 SU), are +600 to win
the conference, but something tells me this team
has missed its opportunity to cash in on a Super
Bowl.
The underachieving Seahawks were a dismal 6-9-1
ATS last season, but did well in O/U wagers,
going 9-7.
Wager Alert: The San Francisco 49ers posted
a sub- .500 record by going 7-9 SU last season,
but they were money in the bank for bettors in
both ATS wagers (9-7) and in O/U wagers (9-7).
The 49ers aren’t going to join the conference’s
elite teams just yet, but they are headed in
the right direction and have a running back in
Frank Gore that will help them cover a whole
lot of NFL spreads. Frisco is +800 to win the
NFC.
The Carolina Panthers
seem like they’re
headed in the wrong direction after last season’s
uninspiring 8-8 SU record that was accompanied
by even more underwhelming records of 6-9-1 ATS
and 7-9 O/U.
The Panthers will
once again field a solid defensive unit, but
they had better get their offensive problems
fixed in a hurry if they want to get back to
the conference’s elite teams in
2007. Carolina is +700 to win the conference.
Wager Alert II: The St. Louis Rams had a decent
season under first-year head coach Scott Linehan,
going 8-8 SU last season. St. Louis posted one
of the more impressive ATS records in the NFC
last season, going 9-7 to tie the Bears and Niners
for third in the league. The Rams also went 8-7-1
in O/U wagers to keep bettors barely in the black
last season. St. Louis is +2000 to win the conference.
Here are the rest of the NFL odds to win the
NFC:
New York Giants +1200
Arizona Cardinals +1800
Atlanta Falcons +2200
Green Bay Packers +1500
Washington Redskins +2000
Minnesota Vikings +2000
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1800
Detroit Lions +6000
