Comments & Notes Coming Soon... |
| 1. |
New
England Patriots |
You're looking at the only squad left in football undefeated ATS. If you were lucky enough to get them at -16.5 versus Cleveland, you avoided the push and cashed in. Next up, the Cowboys. And while the prospect of New England being -5 favorites on the road against the best team in the NFC does get my panties in a knot, this could be the last chance to get them as single-digit favorites. |
| 2. |
Indianapolis
Colts |
Seems like as long as they don’t have
to play any division opponents (0-2 versus the AFC South), the Colts
do just fine ATS. |
| 3. |
Dallas
Cowboys |
The Cowboys' chances to go
5-0 ATS sailed away with Tony Romo's first interception. They could
fall again after this weekend. If Romo throws pick sixes against
the Bills, what do you think will happen against the Patriots? |
| 4. |
Pittsburgh
Steelers |
When the Steelers are allowed to play "Steeler
football" (run the rock, burn the clock), they're easy money ATS.
Seattle let it happen. |
| 5. |
Green
Bay Packers |
A second-half collapse to
the Bears proves you can only cover so many spreads without a solid
running game (just 67.6 yards per game). The Pack have a bye week
to find one. |
| 6. |
Jacksonville
Jaguars |
The run defense got its nasty back, holding
the Chiefs to just 10 yards rushing off 10 carries! Jacksonville's
defense has overshadowed QB David Garrard's impressive performances.
The five-year veteran has four TDs, no INTs and a QB rating of 105.4. |
| 7. |
Tennessee
Titans |
The Titans had five turnovers
and failed to cover the 8.5 points in their 20-13 win, but the defense
looked like one of the best in the league. The Titans just need to
get back controlling the clock on offense, and they'll be unstoppable
ATS again. |
| 8. |
Washington
Redskins |
Why a seven-spot jump from our Week 4 rankings?
The 'Skins held the high-flying Lions to just three points while
QB Jason Campbell had a 125.3 QB rating. Every game Washington gets
better. |
| 9. |
Baltimore
Ravens |
Once again, it looks as if
the Ravens will have to compete without a consistent offense (they
average 17.6 points per contest). The worst part is, besides their
performance versus the Niners, the defense hasn't played much better
(they've average 19.4 points against). |
| 10. |
Seattle
Seahawks |
RB Shaun Alexander is looking older and slower
with every carry, and he now must play without recently-retired lead
blocker Mack Strong. Things are going to get worse before they get
better in Seattle. |
| 11. |
San
Diego Chargers |
Norv Turner finally went
back to the lab and realized that more running + aggressive defense
= Chargers wins and covers. If he sticks to the script, this team
could prove profitable again. |
| 12. |
Tampa
Bay Bucs |
Can you blame the Bucs for being blown out
of the water? They're a solid football team, but trying to cover at Indianapolis
is a lot to ask. Unfortunately it doesn’t get easier. They
face another AFC South opponent, the Tennessee Titans, this weekend. |
| 13. |
Arizona
Cardinals |
It sucks that a half point
got the Cardinals their first loss ATS. And it sucks that Matt Leinart
will miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. But who
isn't a little happy that Kurt Warner is taking over this
potentially explosive offense? |
| 14. |
New
York Giants |
Antonio Pierce may have been childish to use
an air horn to avoid questions about the Giants' lagging defense.
But it looks like it also woke them up. Since allowing 40 points
per game in Weeks 1 and 2 the Giants have held opponents to 14.6
points per game. |
| 15. |
Chicago
Bears |
Finally the Bears' defense
showed up. Better yet Brian Griese looked like the steady signal-caller
they've been lacking. Unfortunately their running game (ranked 27th)
continues to struggle. |
| 16. |
Houston
Texans |
The loss of Ahman Green and Andre Johnson has
hurt this team ATS (lost two straight ATS). Green should return this
weekend. |
| 17. |
Carolina
Panthers |
Carolina's cover at New Orleans
was more about the Saints being the 'Aints than the Panthers being
the old Panthers. Unless they get Steve Smith consistent touches,
a cover ATS from now on will feel like a fluke. |
| 18. |
Detroit
Lions |
The fact that the Detroit offense was put
to bed so easily by Washington should be scary for bettors. |
| 19. |
Denver
Broncos |
Their defense is soft, their
QB looks high and their running back is high. For the first
time in the Mike Shanahan era, the Broncos are in disarray. |
| 20. |
Oakland
Raiders |
With no game in Week 5, the Raiders stay put
at 12. They get a chance to prove how good they can be ATS as 10-point
'dogs at San Diego. Hopefully they keep scoring. They've been a perfect over play
(4-0 OU) so far. |
| 21. |
San
Francisco 49ers |
They covered, but this team
won’t go far if they continue to struggle on offense (12.6
points per game average). |
| 22. |
Philadelphia
Eagles |
Donovan McNabb was pummeled in Week 4 without
RB Brian Westbrook to dump off to. The Pro-Bowl back should be ready
to go this weekend after a much-needed bye week. |
| 23. |
Cincinnati
Bengals |
The Bengals should have Rudi
Johnson back after the bye, but they'll stay inconsistent ATS as
long as the defense struggles (they allowed a league worst 32.3 points
per game). |
| 24. |
Cleveland
Browns |
The fact they were able to put up 17 points,
and push against the Patriots, proves this team is a solid
bet. |
| 25. |
Kansas
City Chiefs |
I don't care how many defenders
are stacked against the run, 12 yards off of just nine carries for
a top-three running back tells me coach Herm Edwards has lost faith
in the run. And Johnson has lost faith in Edwards. |
| 26. |
Buffalo
Bills |
Were the Bills' six takeaways against the Cowboys
a sign of ATS covers to come, or was it a classic case of overachieving
under the flashing lights of Monday night? |
| 27. |
Minnesota
Vikings |
Minnesota coach Brad Childress
had a whole week to figure out that the Vikings should run it at
least 45 times per game. Minnesota is a six-point 'dog at Chicago
this Sunday. |
| 28. |
New
York Jets |
QB Chad Pennington has thrown five INTs in
two weeks and is 0-3-1 ATS this year. It's time for a change. |
| 29. |
Atlanta
Falcons |
The Falcons' defense and
special teams did everything to give the offense a chance to beat
the Titans at home. The best they could do is cover. Harrington's
Week 5 struggles aside (87 passing yards, two INTs), they need a
running game to cover more spreads. |
| 30. |
New
Orleans Saints |
It seems impossible that Drew Brees could go
from MVP candidate to clipboard holder in one season. But the more
INTs he throws (one TD and nine INTs in four games), the more it
becomes reality. |
| 31. |
St.
Louis Rams |
They got their first cover
as home 'dogs, but there won't be many more as long as Gus Frerotte
and Brian Leonard are starting at QB and RB, respectively. |
| 32. |
Miami
Dolphins |
Finally a win Against The Spread anyways...LOL!
However, their QB issues (Cleo Lemon?) make this team a futile wager. |
