Comments & Notes Coming Soon... |
| 1. |
Indianapolis
Colts |
Although the Colts got back
in bettors' good books with an easy double-digit cover versus the
Denver Broncos, Marvin Harrison and Joseph Addai were hurt. Kenton
Keith could make up for the loss of Addai, but with Harrison out,
there's no telling how the Colts’ offense will play. In the
six games he's missed in his career, the Colts are 2-4 ATS. |
| 2. |
New
England Patriots |
If you didn't bet on the Patriots earlier this
season, time could be running out. They can only blow out so many
teams until the spread starts looking like something you'd see between
a Div. 1 and Div. 2 school. |
| 3. |
Dallas
Cowboys |
The Tony Romo/Brett Favre
comparisons are making me sick, but as long as he keeps out-gunning
opponents ATS and turning botched snaps into first downs, who can
argue? |
| 4. |
Green
Bay Packers |
When you watch Brett Favre today compared to
the last two seasons, the immediate conclusion is that he's no longer
throwing darts into triple-covered windows. But with the team ranking
second in passing attempts and last in rushing yards, the stats say
he hasn't slowed down at all. Maybe we just forgot how good he really
is. |
| 5. |
Seattle
Seahawks |
A 2-2 ATS record means they
deserve to be at about the halfway point on the power rankings. However,
buyers beware. Despite the blowout, the Seahawks continue to play
at the level of their opponent. |
| 6. |
Pittsburgh
Steelers |
It looks like Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt
was the first to figure out that the Steelers aren't the impressive
air-it-out offense analysts said they would be. They shut down the
run and put the offense on the shoulders of QB Ben Roethlisberger.
The result was two picks and the Steelers' first loss of the season.
It will be interesting to see whether other teams use this philosophy
and if the Steelers can respond. |
| 7. |
Tennessee
Titans |
The Titans relished the role
of being the underdog in oddsmakers' and analysts' eyes. But after
their dominance on Monday Night Football, it will be interesting
to see if they can cover now that they’re getting respect.
First test, the Titans are -8.5 favorites at home versus the Falcons. |
| 8. |
Jacksonville
Jaguars |
With no game this weekend, the Jags stay put
at No. 14 on the rankings. If they play the way they have after their
Week 1 loss to Tennessee, they may be one of the few teams to break
the homedog curse this year. |
| 9. |
Tampa
Bay Bucs |
Mistake-free football can
take you far in the NFL. That's why the Buccaneers have managed to
win and cover three games in a row this year. The Bucs have no INTs
this season and have only one fumble lost. As long as they continue
to play this way, the loss of Cadillac Williams shouldn't slow them
down. |
| 10. |
Denver
Broncos |
When asked about the Broncos' problems near
their opponents' goal line, Jay Cutler responded, "You're asking
the wrong person. I run what's called." Can you smell an implosion
between coach and QB coming soon? |
| 11. |
Baltimore
Ravens |
And to think I thought this
team was a Super Bowl contender. This team looks old. The only bright
spot is running back Willis Mcgahee. |
| 12. |
Detroit
Lions |
Does this sound familiar: An old, but resilient
QB, a devastating group of wideouts and an offensive coordinator
named Mike Martz all competing on AstroTurf. Sounds like Detroit
is a Pro-Bowl running back away from becoming the new "greatest show
on turf." |
| 13. |
Washington
Redskins |
Another squad coming off
a bye week. The good news for those betting on the 'Skins is they
are 9-2 ATS coming off the bye. |
| 14. |
Carolina
Panthers |
With Jake Delhomme out with an elbow injury,
David Carr is the starter. And if Sunday's performance is any indication
(19-41, 155 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), the Panthers will not be
a reliable bet for the rest of the season. |
| 15. |
Arizona
Cardinals |
The Cards are rotating QBs
like they're middle relievers. The passing attack is stale despite
having some of the best wideouts in the league. And franchise QB
Matt Leinart is unhappy with his role of part-time passer. The good
news is Edgerrin James is running well (top 10 in rushing with 354
yards. He's helped them keep games close. |
| 16. |
San
Diego Chargers |
The Chargers ran LaDainian Tomlinson, the reigning
NFL MVP, 14 times in the first half last Sunday, but just six times
in the second half. How can you bet on a team that’s this stupid? |
| 17. |
Houston
Texans |
Atlanta was going to win
a game eventually and the Texans were their best shot with injuries
at wideout and running back. If RB Ahman Green is able to return
this Sunday, the Texans should get back on track and cover the -5.5
against Miami. |
| 18. |
New
York Giants |
Isn't this always the way with the Giants?
Just when you think they're out, they pull themselves right back
in. They've won and covered two games in a row and the reason is
defense. After giving up 35 points per game in their first two games,
they've allowed only 10 in their last two. |
| 19. |
San
Francisco 49ers |
One of the two homedogs (the
other being Cincy) to not cover this weekend. The offense came to
a grinding halt versus Seattle on Sunday when Alex Smith left the
game. But was he really that good anyway? |
| 20. |
Chicago
Bears |
A mediocre running game, a mediocre passing
game and an injury-ridden defense equals an early contender for flop
of the year. |
| 21. |
Kansas
City Chiefs |
Larry Johnson was finally
able to run the ball like a Pro-Bowler in the Chiefs' 30-16 win over
San Diego, which is promising. But the Chargers haven't exactly been
playing championship football. We'll see what they've really got
versus the stifling run D of the Jaguars. |
| 22. |
Philadelphia
Eagles |
Okay, I know 12 sacks are way too much for
the Eagles' offensive line to give up in a football game, but ask
yourself this: would this have happened to the old Donovan McNabb? |
| 23. |
Cincinnati
Bengals |
Jamie Foxx called the Monday
Night matchup between the Bengals and Patriots a "shootout in the
jungle." Unfortunately, the Bengals brought a knife to a gun fight
and were blown out of the water. They've got a bye week to regroup
and get back to outscoring their competition like years past. |
| 24. |
Oakland
Raiders |
Could the Raiders finally be turning their
franchise around? Daunte Culpepper looked good and the running game
was effective. The only question that remains is, can they maintain
momentum without LaMont Jordan? |
| 25. |
Cleveland
Browns |
The Browns' offense gets
better and more explosive every week. Their ability to hang in shootouts
has made them a solid play ATS since Week 2 and a great play when
betting over on the total. |
| 26. |
New
York Jets |
The Jets were actually -3.5 favorites despite
visiting the Bills on Sunday. What the Jets have shown oddsmakers
to deserve those odds, I'll never know. |
| 27. |
Minnesota
Vikings |
My mancrush on Adrian Peterson
continues, but by now you should be a fan, too. The kid is top five
in rushing yards (383 yards). If they can get stable QB play, they
could surprise teams later in the season. |
| 28. |
Atlanta
Falcons |
The Falcons have improved every game. The slow
steady improvement is a perfect way to catch oddsmakers sleeping
on them. |
| 29. |
New
Orleans Saints |
The Saints have had the bye
week to find new and effective ways to get Marques Colson and Reggie
Bush involved. We doubt it'll matter though. Their defense can’t
guard anyone. |
| 30. |
Buffalo
Bills |
They beat the Jets and were able to cover the
spread. But was it due to the impressive play of the offense or the
fact they were playing the New York Jets? |
| 31. |
Miami
Dolphins |
Things couldn't get any worse
for Miami. Trent Green sucks, Ted Ginn Jr. can't even produce on
special teams and Daunte Culpepper got his "roll on" for five TDs
versus their once-dominant defense. |
| 32. |
St.
Louis Rams |
The team is already riddled with injuries,
and now Marc Bulger will be sitting with bruised ribs. Might be smart
to bet against this team every week. |
