Week 2 Sunday Look Back
Week 1 of the NFL season
is always topsy-turvy. We saw the Ravens flex
their defensive prowess, Chad Pennington serve
notice that he's healthy, the Saints begin the
Reggie Bush era with a win and the Cowboys lose
their opener despite a productive T.O. What will
happen in Week 2? Well, before we get that far,
there's the matter of naming our BetUS Top 12
NFL Teams for the week. We plan on doing this
every week so enjoy! And remember- if you have
a problem with any of the rankings, you can always
email us and we will publish your thoughts.
Week 2 Sunday in the NFL
was intense. We had a few of overtime games, a
couple of surprise results and the emergence of
a couple of powerhouse teams. Without further
ado, here's a quick look at each result from Sunday.
Week 2 Result - Buffalo
16 Miami 6
Here's a case of the Bills
defense being a lot better than people think and
the Miami offense being way overrated than people
initially thought. Daunte Culpepper clearly is
not 100% and has not fully grasped the system
he is in as of yet. Meanwhile, this scrappy Buffalo
team will scratch and claw each and every week.
Week 2 Result - Minnesota
16 Carolina 13 (OT)
This is a game the Panthers
should have won easily. That lateral attempt on
a punt return in the fourth quarter was one of
the dumbest moves I have ever seen in a professional
football game. We loved the Panthers for this
game and we were robbed. Steve Smith didn't play
again and it mattered. Chester Taylor finally
broke through but we are not sold just yet.
Week 2 Result - Cincinnati
34 Cleveland 17
It looks as if the Browns
will take a giant step back in 2006. Their defense
looks awful, their offense is inconsistent and
they play in the toughest division in football.
Conversely, the Bengals brought their A game on
offense and Rudy Johnson proved why he is the
most underrated runningback in the NFL.
Week 2 Result - Chicago
34 Detroit 7
If there was ever a lock
it was this game. You just knew that Roy Williams'
stupid guarantee would anger his opponents. Hasn't
he ever heard the expression "Don't poke
the Bear!"
Week 2 Result - Indianapolis
43 Houston 24
Peyton Manning will perform
with or without a running game and the rest of
the league now knows this. Rookie Joseph Addai
was better in Week 2, but Manning didn't waste
time trying to establish the run. As for the Texans?
Well, the phrase "growing pains" comes
to mind.
Week 2 Result - New Orleans
34 Green Bay 27
Despite a sluggish start
and the absence of a good ground game Sunday,
Drew Brees and the Saints got the job done. While
their defense is still suspect, expect them to
stay in games throughout the season. Brett Favre
put up massive passing yards, but his accuracy
was a little wonky. As well, unless the Packers
secondary gets better, it's going to get uglier.
Week 2 Result - NY Giants
30 Philadelphia 24 (OT)
I already can't wait for
the rematch! These two teams are good, very good.
I expect both to contend all season long. As for
the Eagles blowing a big lead late? I'd be more
worried about losing Kearse for the season. This
was the turning point for Eli Manning's career.
Week 2 Result - Baltimore
28 Oakland 6
The Ravens have yet to hit
their stride offensively and that's a scary thought!
Jamal Lewis and Steve McNair can be better. Let's
not forget who the Ravens have faced so far either.
It's also scary watching the Raiders play football.
Their offensive line is weaker than Superman with
crytonite underwear.
Week 2 Result - Atlanta
14 Tampa Bay 3
I can't decide whether or
not this was a case of the Bucs being terrible
on the o-line or the Falcons being that good up
front on defense. It's probably a little from
column A and B. The Falcons are letting Vick be
Vick and the Bucs need Cadillac to be Cadillac.
Week 2 Result - Seattle
21 Arizona 10
Alexander doesn't rush for
100 yards, Hasselbeck throws two interceptions
and the Seahawks win by 11! Now that's a team
to fear! Arizona has a long to go on offense and
Edgerrin James has been pretty underwhelming thus
far.
Week 2 Result - San Francisco
20 St. Louis 13
It was a feel good story
to see Alex Smith get a win at home and display
good decision-making abilities. The 49ers also
look like they have a gem in Frank Gore. As for
the Rams? They have a long way to go in the passing
game if they want to make a run at a playoff spot.
Marc Bulger has got to be better.
Week 2 Result - Denver
9 Kansas City 6 (OT)
The Broncos defense didn't
allow a touchdown for the second straight game.
Now, if they can only get their passing game in
order... Will Jake Plummer last the season? Not
at this rate. As for the Chiefs, they have to
be proud of their effort in Denver. If they can
keep their defense playing at this level, get
Trent Green back after the bye week and take care
of business against San Francisco and Arizona
next, they can certainly salvage the season.
Week 2 Result - New England
24 Ny Jets 17
Tom Brady is in need of some
wide receiver help, this much is evident after
a couple of weeks. The Pats are 2-0, but looking
quite beatable. Had the Jets showed up earlier
than midway in the third quarter, perhaps we'd
be toasting a different 2-0 AFC East team. Make
it back-to-back 300-yard games for Chad Pennington,
who knew?
Week 2 Result - San Diego
40 Tennessee 7
The good news is that Vince
Young did not throw an interception in Week 2.
The bad news is that Kerry Collins threw two!
The Chargers are good, but how good? They've played
two of the worst five teams in the NFL thus far.
However, we loved what we saw from Philip Rivers
and Michael Turner.
Week 2 Result - Dallas
27 Washington 10
Terrell Owens didn't make
an impact, but it didn't matter. Mark Brunell
has got to be the worst starting quarterback in
the NFL. He was so bad I was harkening for the
days of Heath Shuler. Julius Jones was ok, but
we'd like to see him bust a few more long runs.
